Zen teacher, Haikujo, was walking through the forest with a disciple. A hare scurried off at their approach.
“Why does the hare fly from you.” Haikujo asked.
“Because he is afraid of me,” the disciple answered.
“No,” said Haikujo, “it is because you have a murderous instinct.”

The Virtue of Practice is Revealed in Diligence
After seeing the little girl, who had never seen a phoenix before, the Queen Phoenix descended from the heavens to put her draw one…
“With a flourish of sparkles and stars, she swooped down to earth and gracefully landed…The Queen Phoenix said, “I will stay with you all day so you can draw me. After that you must continue to practice very hard on your own.”
The diligence of practice yields its own fruit.
Deliberate practice helps us become aware of the outcomes of our actions.
With the gift of the Phoenix’s presence as a guide for the little girl’s drawing….
will she be diligent in her practice on her own?
How often do we truly take to heart and practice, the good advice and kind offerings of others?

The Girl Who Drew a Phoenix – More Than Just a Kid’s Story
A beautiful story that reached our home as a gift to a child. The images of the story are vibrant and alive, and the tale is rich with virtue and instruction. This book is a real delight to read. I also love when the child of our house tells me the story in her own way. The book is really wonderful for everyone!
What’s more: this story teaches lessons of life and parallels to the Teaching of the Wisdoms of the Five Dhayani Buddha Families.
Taking the words and instructions into practice will really change one’s life 🙂
As we explore this story in our home, we will share quotes and inspirations from the book.
Enjoy! And Happy Reading!
